This is Team Tinik’s second year participating in Bridge of Hope Centre County’s Night in a Car fundraiser! We are excited to be back raising funds in support of Bridge of Hope and awareness about homelessness in our community again this year. We were completely blown away by our experience last year and in response we’ve decided to increase our fundraising goal from $1,000 to $1,500. Because everyone deserves a place to call home.

I have served on the Bridge of Hope board for over four years now and I love the work that we do in helping families find sustainable housing. I was amazed at how much I learned from staying in my car for one night. I was able to get a more realistic view of what some families deal with for an extended time in just one night. We have a big goal of being able to bring more families into the program and with you help we will be able to achieve that goal.

As a former single parent who at one time was facing homelessness, I love that Bridge of Hope has such a comprehensive way of assisting our families. Not just a pat on the back and a few dollars – our staff walks with them through the process of finding housing, figuring out budgeting, job/educational achievements, parenting struggles, AND providing rental assistance on a declining basis. This helps preserve the dignity of our families and shows them they CAN get to where they want to be – self-sustaining and successful. A bonus blessing is the group of Neighboring Volunteers that each family has who will just love on them and be there for them – providing friendship without judgement or any “Shoulds” or “Should nots.” Thank you for considering supporting my car this year!

There is a big issue with homeless in this area, and there are countless reasons why one may be homeless. You can’t fix them all but clearly to know you could do good and not do it is a sin. So do for one what you wish you could do for them all. For Jesus said “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭58‬ ‭NLT

I am Sheila mother to two grown girls (Randi & Dayna) and wife to Al. Myself and my trusty dog companion, Tater, will be attending the event remotely from our driveway in Clintondale (Mill Hall). Last year I sponsored my friend Leigh. This year I decided to participate to help raise awareness and support, for Bridge of Hope. I am involved with the FaithCentre in Bellefonte. The FaithCentre does all sorts of outreach with rent and utility assistance, etc. In a recent conversation with the director, I learned that we are very limited in their ability to assist with actual homelessness. Being a Realtor and property manager, I see how difficult it can be for folks to find a place to live. Inventory is low and demand (and rents) are high. With every new property listed for rent, we receive many inquiries from people desperately looking for housing. We have certain criteria that we are looking for in a perspective tenant. It is difficult for people without adequate income and/or employment etc. to get a break. Often times there are underlying family problems and/or mental/physical disabilities which compounds the problems. The need is very great and resources limited. What the Bridge of Hope does, is simply Angelic and worth my spending a Night in A Car!

Grammy Tammy and sweet grandbabies, Andrew and Grace, are excited about being involved for the first time with this event, We want to spend a Night in the Car to show support and help others who may not have some of the life essentials such as housing, food and warm clothing. This is also an opportunity to help Andrew and Grace understand that not everyone enjoys the “luxuries” they have in life like a warm bed. At their ages of 7 and 8, it is not too soon to help them be more aware of others and how we can help make a difference, no matter what our ages.
